A Shifter Reimagined — Sculpted for Those Who Still Care About Driving

When I first saw Porsche unveil the 992-generation interior back in 2018, I was genuinely impressed. The cockpit was refined, minimalist, and beautifully executed. Yet, it wasn't until recently, when a client approached me to create something special for their 992, that I dove deeper into this modern Porsche interior. As someone who daily-drives a classic 964, I soon discovered how many enthusiasts shared a common frustration with the minimalist factory "razor"—it lacked the satisfying, tactile experience of a traditional shift knob.

The factory toggle, nicknamed "the razor" for its ultra-minimalist Bauhaus design, certainly suits modern tastes, but it lacks the mechanical connection Porsche drivers traditionally cherish. That's when the vision of my Tribute Shifter took shape in my mind.

From Razor to Reverence – Crafting the Ultimate Porsche Shifter

From the outset, I knew that simply replicating the GT3-style lever wasn't the right direction. Instead, I aimed for a sculptural, driver-focused piece that resonated with Porsche’s existing interior forms. I immersed myself in the geometry of the 992, finding inspiration in subtle details—the two-spoke steering wheel, the carefully chamfered center console, and even the precise angles of the dashboard.

Each steel shaft begins its life as ultra-fine, 40-micron stainless steel powder, meticulously fused layer by layer through laser-based metal 3D printing. The result is an intricate, jewelry-like detail that traditional machining simply can't replicate. Yet, the true magic comes afterward: every piece is individually hand-finished by me, enhancing subtle surface textures and ensuring no two shifters are exactly alike.

Heritage in Hand: Wooden Shift Knobs Inspired by Porsche Legends

The wooden knobs are equally unique. Crafted using CNC precision combined with extensive manual finishing, each knob is a tactile celebration of Porsche's racing heritage—echoing the iconic wooden knobs from legendary race cars like the 917, 908, and Carrera GT. Customers can choose from exceptional materials, including centuries-old bog oak or carefully matched walnut-and-oak combinations, each finished with hard wax oils and polished by hand to reveal a unique organic warmth and character.
